We support legislation that provides parents, students and teachers the right to opt out of school-issued one-to-one electronic device programs, or other school electronic device or online product use. Independent research shows a print book-based education is superior for reading comprehension and learning. We support legislation where teachers can choose to teach their class with pencil, books, and paper without the use of untested and ineffective online and digital products.

We support legislation that will require companies that market their products for use in schools to register with the State of Vermont by attesting that their products are effective, safe, and compliant with laws intended to protect children.

We support legislation to require warning labels on social media products to help educate consumers in Vermont about the risks of harm posed by social media products.
Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy called for warning labels on social media products almost two years ago, but Congress has not acted. New York, Colorado, Minnesota, and California have all passed their own laws requiring such warning labels.
