Why Get a Landline?

Landlines facilitate essential skill acquisition that both children and teens need:

1) Planning in advance

2) Hearing the sound of someone’s voice without “digital emojis”

3) Delayed gratification, patience

4) Independence to NOT be tethered to mom or dad (they can learn to ask other humans for help…if they can’t always “call mom”!)

5) The freedom to NOT be “on call” and always available

6) What are some others you can think of?……..

“Landlines foster conversation skills, as there’s nothing to look at — it tunes kids’ listening abilities. And with attention spans decreasing further and further, these kids (with landlines) are cultivating not just listening skills, but attention and empathy — valuable personal skills in today’s world.”

How do I get a landline?

1) find your local Vermont phone carrier

2) For families that do not have a wired land line connection some use a Voice over IP company such as www.ooma.com/home-phone/retro-phones/‍ ‍ which includes address-based 911 so first responders know your exact registered address and sends alerts during emergencies.
